Matt Swann

Music Director
Music has been a part of Matt’s life from a very early age, starting on the violin at age 6, moving into vocal music within a few years. He joined the Barbershop Harmony Society in 1996, at the tender age of 14, and immediately knew that barbershop would be his primary musical home. After several years singing with the Dundalk, MD Chorus of the Chesapeake, Matt moved to Florida where he attended the University of Miami. While in Florida, he sang with and was assistant director of the Miamians Chorus and formed a collegiate barbershop quartet called HEAT, who went on to win the International Collegiate Championship in 2003. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music, Matt relocated to Dallas, TX where he sang with the world-renowned Vocal Majority Chorus and the Texas Millionaires Chorus of Ft. Worth, winning an international chorus gold medal with the former.

In 2006, opportunity knocked once again and he moved to Denver, CO to become assistant director and baritone section leader for the Sound of the Rockies Chorus, helping them to their first 4 international chorus medals. While in Denver, he also sang baritone with the popular Rocky Mountain District champion quartet Ignition!, placing in the top 20 at international three separate times. In 2012, Matt relocated to Southern California and joined the Masters of Harmony, earning a silver medal with them in 2014, and the Westminster Chorus, earning a silver and a gold medal with them. In 2014, he joined the quartet American Pastime and recorded a fourth appearance in the international quartet contest, and winning a FWD quartet championship. In 2016, Matt threw his hat in the ring to become Space City Sound’s first permanent music director, and relocated to Houston. He currently sings baritone in the 2017 Southwestern District quartet champion Rhapsody.

When not singing, coaching, or directing, Matt enjoys spending time with his partner Isaac and his cat Felix. By day he works in property management and enjoys reading, cinema, museums, swimming and experiencing all of the great culture that Houston provides!
